Grade 8 Major Project Webquest

Introduction

In the Grade 8 Major Project Webquest you will be creating an advanced PowerPoint presentation.

Within this project you will learn how to use Mircosoft PowerPoint to effectively sell/promote your topic through the use of text, graphics, animations, photo's and video.

Procedure

Step 1

Choose any topic from one of your regular classrooms. Check your topic with Mr. Pearse to make sure it is suitable.

Step 2

Create a new PowerPoint document and save it into your folder. Title the file "major project" followed by your intials.

Step 3

Create 15 slides. This is the minimum number of slides for your PowerPoint presentation (there is no maximum number).

Step 4

Title and name your first slide.

Step 5

On the last slide title it "Bibliography". You must have a minimum of five references. Each reference must be to MLA standards (use Citation Machine).

Step 6

Open Wikipedia and Mr. Pearse's Google and begin your research. I find the best way to "plan" a PowerPoint presentation is to title each slide first. Then add the text. Add pictures last.

Step 7

Take your PowerPoint home. I would like each student to take their PowerPoint home for finishing touches. Part of the grade will be you utilizing a technology device like a floppy disk, email or flash drive to transport your presentation back to school for your oral presentation.

Step 8

Orally present.

Conclusion

PowerPoint can be an effective tool. This isn't always the case. You will experience in your lifetime many PowerPoint presentations. Hopefully, through completing this project, you will be able to identify what makes a good presentation, and what makes a bad presentation. It is also hoped, that as you progress to High School, College and the work force, that you utilize these new skills in your presentation/public speaking activities.
